Elementary Program - Grades 1-6

Our Elementary Program operates Monday through Friday (8:40 to 3:10) from September to June. Click HERE for information on the related Fees for this program. Click HERE if you are looking for information on Full Day Kindergarten.

Through a carefully developed curriculum and a well-trained, experienced, loving faculty, we address each child’s unique developmental needs (intellectual, social, moral, and artistic). We give children a global understanding of education.

Our program incorporates Montessori learning methods and materials along with a focus on excellence in education and the fine arts. Students are involved in academics, dance and a full range of fine arts and music experiences.  In addition, we incorporate physical activity into many aspects of our program. We offer a hot lunch program and after school child care.  We actively celebrate the diversity of the whole student body, including all ethnic backgrounds, religions, and international backgrounds. The curriculum is international in its heritage and focus, and consciously seeks to promote a global perspective.

In Our Global Classroom

- We teach children how to think  - not what to think.  This approach encourages out of the box thinking.

- Our classroom interest centres are carefully thought through and equipped with an abundance of both structured and unstructured, attractive materials graded to the children's varying levels of experience and development.

- We offer trips into the community to learn about the real work that adults do in present day society - to come back with a child-centred unforgettable experience rather than a mass of facts.

- Children should have the chance to develop and cherish human relationships.  Constant direct contact among the children and the freedom to choose partners in work or play according to their own feelings and needs, are absolutely necessary as practice in being able to make genuine relationships in the future.

- Our children do not spend all day with their eyes upon the teacher or the blackboard.

- A meaningful curriculum urges the child to move about with curiosity, strength of feeling and joy in his senses.

- In Global Montessori, books, tables and chairs are not dispensed with all together, but have far less importance than the continuously self-renewing environment full of concrete materials and many inducements to practical activities.

- At Global Montessori our aim is to allow every child to learn according to the rhythm of his own development, through real activity in a real world, not the printed world of schoolbooks or worksheets.

- We are a low/no sugar school.  We are concerned about the whole child and about their personal health and wellbeing.

The Differences Between Our School and Others

- We incorporate a completely open and flexible academic curriculum.

- We allow the children the freedom to freely move about and talk to other children.

- We present an elastic curriculum in which not everyone has to master the same material at the same time.

- In place of one universally adopted curriculum, Global Montessori offers the cultivation of life-renewing learning processes, hoping to avoid giving the children an impression that education is something to be completed in stages, after which it is finished.

- A meaningful Global curriculum begins with where the "child is at" at the time and takes into account the nature of the child.

Child Lead Learning

- Education at Global Montessori is based on the children's own spontaneous initiative and activity.

- We respect the child's need for concrete activity as opposed to the teacher's verbal transmission of content and skills.

- We help children to trust their own guidance which enables them to face the many new ideas and values and select those which are valid for their own situation.

- Once the young person becomes accustomed to postpone living until the bell goes or the exam has been passed, it becomes harder for him with each successive year to find his way back to a feeling of being in charge of his own education.

- A meaningful curriculum urges the child to move about with curiosity, strength of feeling and joy in his senses.

- Real situations unite Global Montessori children of different ages in common activity, but the way of learning is different for each child.

- At Global Montessori, the child learns to stand on his own feet, and not to spend his whole life depending on directions from outside.

- Children often apply more energy and perseverance to activities that they have themselves chosen than could possibly be expected with those laid upon them by a teacher or someone else.
